The first Bharat Sevashram Sangh was founded in 1917 in Bangladesh by Swami Pranavananda Ji Maharaj. It was started by swamiji with a vision to expand his philanthropic and charitable activities all over India to bring a change in the lives of underprivileged people all over India. The main aim of the organization was to bring about a change in the lives of weak and deprived people, and it is still carried on till now.
The name Bharat Sevashram Sanghwas coined by Swamiji, with a deeper sense behind it. Where,
‘Bharat’denotes upliftment and emancipation of the people of India.
‘Sevashram’ denotes a source to help mankind ,a source dedicated to serve people irrespective of their caste, creed, colour and religion.
While Sangha is the group of true servants of the nation who have dedicated their lives into helping people physically, morally, spiritually and mentally.
Now, this organization is headquartered in Kolkata and has about fifty branches and associates throughout India and around the world. Today the Sangha undertakes relief work during natural calamities, runs school, Orphanage, student homes and hospitals.
